MEMBERSHIP APPLICATION INFORMATION

California Writers Club
Tri-Valley Branch

Dear Prospective Member,

Thank you for your interest in California Writers Club. We hope you will decide to join us. Our organization is open to everyone interested in the craft of writing, from experienced writer to aspiring novice. California Writers Club welcomes all genres including fiction, non-fiction, poetry, children’s and writing for stage and screen. You do not have to be published to become a member. Mission California Writers is a professional statewide organization. We aim to inform, educate and improve our individual writing. In addition to sharing experiences with other members, we invite authors, publishers, editors and agents to speak at our monthly
meetings. They discuss writing, querying, publishing and marketing your work. We help writers to find networking opportunities that will provide additional exposure and further develop their writing career. In addition to our monthly gatherings and speakers, we also organize the following activities:

• Information on writing contests (including those sponsored by other
organizations)
• Workshops for developing your writing skills
• Critique groups specializing in the genre of your interest
• Member newsletters containing writing tips, upcoming events and a column celebrating the latest publishing successes of our members
• Literary showcase: An Evening with California Writers Club where members read their work. (Open to the general public, members only may read). Meetings Our luncheon meetings are usually held on the third Saturday of the month at 11:30 a.m. (with the exception of summer when we do not meet July and August). Our regular location is Oasis Grille, Pleasanton. Reservations are required. Contact Fred Norman at 925-462-7495 or via e-mail at fnorman300@aol.com no later than Wednesday before the Saturday meeting. The price for the luncheon program is $20 for members and $25 for non-member guests. Membership: Our membership is open to everyone but we do require an understanding of your previous writing experience. To apply for membership, please provide the following:

1. Fill out the enclosed membership application (see attached). If you have been published, please provide a list of all such work including the date published as well as a sample of your work for each genre (please note that complete copies of a longer work (eg. a novel) are not necessary; 10 pages will suffice). If you are yet-to-be published we would like to see a sample of a work in progress. Please note that this material is not intended to judge you as an author but merely to collect some background information. This assists us in planning programs/speakers most appropriate to our membership interest, and is required by the Central Board of California Writers Club. Please include a self addressed stamped envelope if you want your work returned.

2. Make your check payable to CWC Tri-Valley Branch for $65.00 to cover the annual membership fee from July 1 through June 30 (including the one time CWC enrollment fee of $20). The annual renewal fee is $45.

3. If applying for membership in the last half of the year from January 1 through June 30, the annual fee is $42.50 (including the one time CWC enrollment fee of $20.00).
